Food Services Master Plan

Update: September 2017
In early 2017, we embarked on a review of food services on campus. Students, faculty and staff participated in an online, campus-wide survey and in-person focus groups, providing a detailed satisfaction and needs analysis. We worked with a consultant to analyse current operations and they conducted a detailed environmental/landscape scan.
Some initial findings:
- With over 75 retail food businesses within a five minute walk, there is a huge opportunity for Food Services to offer a niche product to its campus community that differentiates it from its competitors.
- The campus community agree with and support Food Services’ recent efforts and commitment to local and sustainable ingredient sourcing.
- Our meal plans are generally more economical than other schools, and there are opportunities to introduce new programs like all you can eat models in residences.
- There are some campus facilities in need of renovation/redesign (i.e., Pitman Dining Hall), which could better serve the needs of residents.
- Ryerson’s catering services are in high demand and there are lots of opportunities to better serve the campus community.
Moving forward, University Business Services will continue to research, consult, and focus on restructuring the current food services operation to address the findings from the review in order to continue to meet the needs of the campus community, and improve student engagement.
